Whilst focused on driving local investment in our region we are also diversified geographically with investments in the South Island and the Auckland region.

As the economic arm of Ngati Porou iwi, our business activities help provide economic stability and resilience in our region. We aim to provide sustainable returns and opportunites for our people and community to grow, develop and prosper. Key to our success is working collaboratively with future focused partners to drive sustainable outcomes and prosperity for all.

Seafood
Kaimoana

We own or manage significant fishing assets, including quota which provides us with an annual catch entitlement of over 4,000 metric tonnes, with commercial fishing rights to 75 New Zealand fish species. We are the largest partner of 18 other like-minded Māori fishing entities to form the Iwi Collective Partnership, to which we lease all of our annual catch entitlement.

Additionally, we own a 7.5% stake in Aotearoa Fisheries Limited (trading as Moana), the largest Māori-owned fisheries company in New Zealand. We also hold a non-controlling interest in Ahi Mokopuna Limited Partnership, a joint venture dedicated to the sustainable farming of sea-reared salmon.

We manage three farms: Pakihiroa Farm nestled at the foot of Maunga (Mount) Hikurangi, Makarika in Ruatoria, and Puanga on the outskirts of Gisborne.

Covering a combined area of 2,770 hectares, our operations support around 25,000 stock units, including over 12,000 ewes and 1,500 cattle. We produce premium sheep, beef, and wool for international markets, with key exports including lamb to Europe and beef to the United States.

We oversee and manage approximately 28,000 hectares of forestry land, much of which includes former Crown Forest Land returned through our Treaty Settlement.

Forestry is the cornerstone of our region's economy, providing vital employment and driving economic growth for our people.

As kaitiaki (guardians) of our whenua (land), we are dedicated to sustainable land use, blending our traditional knowledge and expertise with cutting-edge science and best practices.

We maintain a diverse portfolio of property investments across residential, commercial and agricultural sectors throughout New Zealand, including prime locations such as Waikanae Beach in Gisborne, and hold interests in the redevelopment of the JW Marriot in downtown Auckland. Property investment is a key focus of our portfolio, with a variety of active and passive holdings from development to mature investments.

Tourism
Tūruhi

Maunga (Mount) Hikurangi is a place of great spiritual and cultural significance for our people, serving as a gateway to our history and the legendary feats of our ancestor Maui and his whanau (family).

We provide a unique cultural experience on this highly sacred Maunga, from the first place in the world to see the sunrise. Our offerings cater to both domestic and international manuhiri (visitors) seeking a deeply personal and meaningful cultural experience.

Mānuka Honey

Mānuka Honey
Miere

Ngati Porou Mānuka was created to share our premium Mānuka honey with the world, harnessing the natural beauty and remoteness of our land. We produce honey from vast stands of wild Mānuka and eco-sourced transplants, with over 3,000 beehives located along State Highway 35, surrounded by untouched native forests and coastal settlements.

With over 75 years of beekeeping expertise, our team trains local workers to ensure the production of premium quality honey. We also operate Porou Miere, a 900sqm state-of-the-art extraction and processing facility based in Te Araroa.
